The air museum is located right next to the Columbus Municipal Airport terminal and control tower. Bakalar History - ATTERBURY-BAKALAR AIR MUSEUM
The History of Bakalar Air Force Base as published in the Bakalar Air Force Base Directory and Guide 1957 Bakalar Air Force Base, originally known as Atterbury Air Base, was opened in February, 1943. Its original name was borrowed from the Army's then-active Camp Atterbury, located only fourteen miles north of the Air Base.

WWII Tuskegee Airmen
Major General Mark Pillar with Walter and Louis at the Honoring Veterans Banquet in Columbus, Indiana. Louis and his fellow Tuskegee Airman, Walter Palmer, Class 43-F, were long-time friends and supporters of the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum. The Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame display at the museum honors the Tuskegee Airman We are honored to have known you, Louis.
WWII Women at War - ATTERBURY-BAKALAR AIR MUSEUM
Madge Rutherford Minton, WWII WASP, friend, and contributor to the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum, passed away November 7, 2004, at age 84. Madge was one of the first four women in the United States to graduate from the Advanced Civilian Pilot Training Program.
Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum The Wing Script
This past year the museum welcomed a record number of visitors; more than 5500. Throughout the year special events always spurred the visitor count. Group reunions, club meetings, student group tours, affinity groups and concerts have been welcomed. The C-119 aircraft continues to be quite a “magnet” for visitors. And, the Norbeck chapel was again a matrimonial site.
